Lucía is an argentine artist based in London. She studied Fashion Design at the Buenos Aires University (UBA), Costume Design and Characterisation at the San Martín Cultural Center (CCGSM) and at the Colón Theatre Institute in Argentina. She completed residencies at Fabra i Coats and MACBA Barcelona among others, and learned traditional textile techniques from a young age. She worked in the audiovisual industry for more than a decade before her visual arts practice.
Statement
My practice delves into narratives within the textile world and is born from the need to find meaning in established social structures, from the most intimate and personal, to the most immediate and universal of the time and space I inhabit. My work is crossed by the cartography, traceability and composition of materials that are stopped in their natural cycle by the action of humanity. I see textiles as tangible languages crafted by manual technologies that I approach through research, sculpture, video, drawing and writing. In my pieces rescue, repurpose and re-signify discarded material in order to shape a post-industrial decentralised and resilient worldview towards a possible future.

Lucía es una artista argentina con base en Londres. Estudió Diseño de Indumentaria en la Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), Vestuario y Caracterización en el Centro Cultural San Martín (CCGSM) y en el Instituto del Teatro Colón en Argentina. Completó residencias en Fabra i Coats y MACBA Barcelona, entre otras, y aprendió técnicas textiles artesanales desde temprana edad. Trabajó en la industria audiovisual por más de una década antes de su práctica en las artes visuales.
Statement
Mi práctica indaga narrativas dentro del mundo textil y nace de la necesidad de encontrar sentido en las estructuras sociales establecidas, desde lo más íntimo y personal, hasta lo más inmediato y universal del tiempo y espacio que habito. Mi trabajo está atravesado por la cartografía, trazabilidad y composición de materiales que son detenidos en su ciclo natural por la acción de la humanidad. Veo a los textiles como lenguajes tangibles elaborados por tecnologías manuales que abordo a través de la investigación, la escultura, el video, el dibujo y la escritura. En mis piezas rescato, reutilizo y resignifico material textil con el fin de dar forma a una cosmovisión post-industrial descentralizada y resiliente hacia un futuro posible.
